print mail large  medium  small
The Baijiantan district is 30 kilometers to the northeast of downtown Karamay and is a key production area for the Karamay oilfield, where the first major oil well – No.193 – went into production, in 1958. Its daily output of more than 100 tons of petroleum has given it the title of "King" of the nation's oil fields. Oil is a pillar industry and crucial to the district's economic development. Other major industries include oil exploration, well testing, and electric power. The service industry has helped the development of other industries.
